Synopsis

Meet Kintoki Sakata, the manly, blond straight-perm hero who runs an Odd Jobs shop in Edo, backed by his devoted subordinates Shinpachi and Kagura as they breeze through every case. Or so it should be, until a shabby, natural-perm man calling himself Gintoki Sakata shows up and shamelessly insists that he is the real protagonist. The Kintama parallel world turns out to be a warped reality created when Gintoki slipped into another dimension, escalating into a showdown for the lead role against a coolly rewritten Kintoki, his alternate self. Yet the further the story goes, the clearer it becomes why the lazy, frizzy-haired real Gintoki is the one who truly wins his friends' hearts. In the end, Gintoki stays stubbornly himself and returns to his own world, and it is deeply satisfying to see Shinpachi and Kagura choose the genuine article without hesitation. Beneath the relentless self-parody lies profound affection for the characters.
