Synopsis

The Joui rebel Katsura goes undercover inside the Shinsengumi under a false identity, plotting to bring them down. But the Third Division he is assigned to is led by Saito Shimaru, a captain so extremely silent that no one can read what he is thinking. The unexpected contact between the disguise-clinging Katsura and the wordless Saito builds toward serious trouble. The volume also crams in the jobless Madao's heartbreaking attempt at a job-hunting photo and the chaos of a monstrous love potion spreading through town.

Behind Saito's silence lie an awkwardness with people and old wounds, and the infiltrator Katsura unwittingly starts to loosen his heart. A strange friendship blooms across the enemy line, and Katsura nearly loses sight of his original goal. The love-potion arc turns the whole town, from the Shinsengumi to the Yorozuya, into a hellscape of mutual infatuation, until the one who spread it gets exactly what they deserve. Madao's job-hunt photo tugs at the usual pathos while flashing his own brand of pride. A volume with a delightfully wide swing between drama and gags.
