Synopsis

It is the final day of Karasuno's training camp, and the closing event is a fated practice match against Nekoma High, the rivalry passed down as the "Battle at the Garbage Dump." Nekoma boasts a receiving game that simply refuses to fall, and their control tower, setter Kenma Kozume, uses his calm, razor-sharp observation to lay Hinata and Kageyama's trump-card quick completely bare. Read, dug up, and finally shut down, how will the duo fight on? Volume 4 sets the fated bond between Karasuno and Nekoma into real motion, and marks the point where Hinata begins to learn to think on the court.

With their quick sealed off by Kenma's observation, Hinata and Kageyama realize that raw speed alone is not enough. But from the experience of being stopped, Hinata starts to grasp the role of a decoy and how to read the situation and choose the right attack. The match against Nekoma becomes less about the score than a place where both teams acknowledge each other as opponents destined to settle things someday at nationals. A strange spark ignites between Kenma and Hinata, and the Battle at the Garbage Dump turns into a promise for the future. In this volume Karasuno takes a step from a team leaning on the quick toward a team that thinks as it fights.
