Synopsis

On the way home from Yahiko's training, Kenshin and his friends are attacked by Raijuta, a swordsman preaching the revival of the old sword schools. His Fei Ratsu technique wounds Yutaro's right arm, and the boy realizes he was merely being used. When the doctor warns that he may never wield a sword again, a young dream nearly shatters. What is a sword truly for, and what responsibility falls on those who wield power? Carrying the atonement sealed in his reverse-blade sword, Kenshin confronts an enemy who worships a twisted vision of strength.

Raijuta turns out to be a loudmouthed coward, and his fearsome Fei Ratsu is little more than a trick of the eye. Without ever going full force, Kenshin dismantles Raijuta's bravado and exposes the emptiness of his "revival" crusade. Yutaro's arm fully heals and the boy grips a sword again. What stands out here is Kenshin's cold contempt for hollow displays of power. Meanwhile the story quietly edges toward its next great enemy, Makoto Shishio, as the peaceful days at the Kamiya dojo begin to fade.
