Synopsis

Hanamichi Sakuragi is slowly taking shape as a basketball player. His patient work on the fundamentals finally pays off, and he is at last allowed to practice shooting. Dreaming only of throwing down a monstrous slam dunk, he runs headlong into the reality that he cannot even sink a simple running lay-up. Under the watchful eyes of Haruko and Coach Anzai, the clumsy but earnest Hanamichi throws himself into relentless training in this coming-of-age Volume 3.

Hanamichi finally accepts the grind of repetition and works on correcting his shooting form. To a boy obsessed with dunking, the lay-up feels painfully plain, but through endless reps his body and the ball begin to connect. Coach Anzai quietly recognizes Hanamichi's bottomless potential, and even Akagi starts to acknowledge his room to grow. Haruko remains his driving force, yet Hanamichi discovers the joy of scoring with his own hands and truly begins to stand as a player. The groundwork for the next official match is steadily being laid.
