Synopsis

Standing between Toriko and the Gourmet God "Air" is Heracles, the Horse King, a being that has long been tied to the very survival of the continent. Facing this creature of overwhelming presence, Toriko is driven into a desperate corner. Meanwhile, having reached a hill where the sluggish drizzle falls, Komatsu sharpens every nerve as a chef and takes on the near-impregnable fruit of Air with a single, all-out stroke of his knife. Heracles the Horse King turns out to be no mere enemy but a guardian who has nurtured and protected the ingredient Air, sustaining the continent's entire ecosystem. Toriko realizes brute force will never be enough and chooses a way of fighting that balances respect for his foe with his hunger for food. Komatsu, meanwhile, accomplishes preparation of Air's fruit that would take an ordinary person a lifetime, through unfathomable focus. The series' core idea, that obtaining an ingredient means understanding it rather than merely taking it, shines through, accelerating toward the cell changes and Teppei's return next volume.
